How Geniuses Think? What do They Think Most of the Time?

http://www.speedofcreativity.org/category/creativity/feed/
'To think like a genius, you must be one of them.'

Genius, as I personally define the term, refers to an individual with great multitudinal prowess. He can think not only in the present, but beyond what the conventions dictate. He is by far beyond measurable by current standards. To think that he is merely what he seems to be based on his present outputs is an underestimation. Likewise, he can also see what other may have not seen before by his contemporaries.

So, how do geniuses think? To think like a genius, you must be one of them.

I think geniuses can be superficially assessed as being ordinarily adroit in everything they do. They may be considered jack-of-all trades. When they think and apply it, they ooze with confidence in what they do. Whether by objective or intersubjective standards and norms, even lay people would concur that indeed that geniuses are 'completing' a magnum opus even when it is simply not complete yet.

Geniuses, in other words, based on the latter paragraph think on their own terms and standards. They can do an incomplete project and yet can be hailed already as a masterpiece. Even more highly profound to the mediocre is when a genius has fully realized the figment of his imagination in tangible ways. See the super-engineering projects, modern architectures, arts, inventions, and so on? They are achievements of geniuses made realizable by people tended by such individuals.

We could possibly list here a few of the individuals who were considered by most people as geniuses. Though and an exhaustive enumeration and not in order of their IQs, achievements or popularity, we have, viz.:

Bernhard Riemann (1826-1866)

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519)

Marie Skłodowska-Curie (1867-1934)

Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

Nikola Tesla (1856-1943)

Gottfried Leibniz (1646-1716)

William Shakespeare (1564-1616)

Terence Tao (1975-____)

A few individuals may not consider all of the abovementioned people as geniuses because some believe that geniuses are a rare breed of being jack-of-all trade. However, for my part, geniuses are persons who have contributed significantly well to merit praise in human way. They do not have to necessarily become immortalized by a few pages of comments and writings. Their legacies say it all.

I also do not believe that a person was never born a genius. We are also geniuses in our own little or big ways. There are simply many factors why some peoples' geniuses have never come to fruition. To delimit the meaning and essence of a genius is an underrating. I know that deep within us all there is a genius still awaiting to manifest. One way or the other, we can be one. The question is really: when? for there is only a limited time that we have to live and afterwards die.

So, how about the question about how geniuses think most of the time?

Well, they think mostly in innovative, critical and creative manners. They think of things that can better harness and tap their talents, focus, and novel thinking. If we only can do the same in our spare time most of the time, after some time, we can also be considered like them...

What do we think about our human brain? Is it really our brain that is at work?

Our brain is housed inside our skull. Inside the brain's skull is what layperson commonly refer  to as the gray areas. There are sulcis and gyri, too. Neurons, axons, myelin sheaths, and the like. For the brain's transmission of data, we have the neurotransmitters. Then, depending on which lobes of the brain the data go, the information is processed accordingly as images, colors, numbers, and so on. So, what do we think about our human brain?

Brain scientists and technologists are doing everything to understand, not just the human brain, but all of the human nervous systems, the extensions, and related physiological parts. Having said that, there are still a lot of things we would like our queries to be altogether answered. However, it is never an easy task to see these things from an outsider's view concerning our inner being, even when we use other people as subjects of research.

The human consciousness, for instance, is less known as to why it exists (if ever it indeed exists). We wake up and then become aware of our self and our surroundings. On the other hand, when we are asleep and dreaming, we are still conscious; that is, we are aware that we are dreaming. The question is: are we really aware that it is a dream or not? Sometimes, we do are aware that it is just a dream and sometimes, we do not know ourselves that we are inside our dream. We simply dream, adrift until we become awake again. When indeed we wake up again, we may never know if it is no longer a dream. Are all dreaming then or we had never ever dream. Dream or not a dream, is it all merely a part of what we call human reality?

Furthermore, from a variety of human feats that a person exhibits, there are individuals with innately superhuman abilities. Using their brains to do superb things, such as a young boy who knows complex facts, languages, and creative ideas, an ordinary, average, typical person can have a hard time processing and synthesizing the same information longer. The first individual requires less effort, whereas the second person does not only have to exert more effort, but also longer time and even additional resources. Hence, the way the brain works is indeed a mystery even for the geniuses.

We all have our brain. As unique as a human person, so is each human brain. Sizes, compositions, neural firings, and the like make each person's brain of a different gradient. It is the height of human achievement in the event scientists and technologists would find a way to unearth how the brain works and its mysteries. In case researchers would find a way to re-invent and re-engineer how the brain is all there is to understand why and how we understand things at their best, that is something we can relate with to the smallest and biggest parts of us being truly human - and maybe, more than that.

Online courses, NOT only for a select few, BUT for everyone

These days, myriad universities and non-universities offer courses via the internet. Many of these universities are privately or government-owned educational institutions. On the other hand, non-universities are non-profit, for-profit, and non-governmental entities whose online platforms they manage on their own. Both of these institutions mostly provide massive online open courses (MOOCs) and a few of them established their own right of having learning management systems (LMS), virtual learning environments (VLE), and the like.

First, a list of the most prominent and byword institutional online education systems include, but are not limited to the following:

  • EDx, founded in 2012 (USA), is a non-profit MOOC. It offers free online courses; however, for a fee for its course certification.
  • Canvas, established in 2008 (USA), is a commercial-type MOOC. Courses ranges from K-12 to higher education.
  • Coursera, put up in 2012 (USA), has some free online courses. The rest is subscription-based courses with varying licenses.
  • FutureLearn, like Edx and Coursera, it was founded in 2012 (UK). Likewise, it offers free online courses, but for a fee for its certification courses.
  • Iversity, founded in 2013 in Europe, it is a commercial-type MOOC.
  • Khan Academy, which was built in 2006, is also a non-profit learning platform that offers general K-12 education up to master's level.
  • Open2Study
  • Udacity, circa 2012, is a US commercial-based MOOC.
  • Udemy, established in 2010, is a commercial MOOC space. Free courses when less than or equal to 2 hours; otherwise, paid. Both subscription or non-subscription-based course fees are instructor-dependent.
Other MOOCs are, viz.:
Additional MOOCs with hyperlinks only:
Should you enroll and complete the courses offered by these online schools, you gain countless benefits, such as:
1. Personal and professional growth and development
2. Non-verified or verified certification
3. Caring through sharing with others what you learnt
4. Other advantages, such as knowledge scaffolding and boom.

In today's world, everyone can learn everything s/he wants but with a cost: human effort, time, space, etc. What is essential is to know only the essentials. When you mastered the basics/fundamentals, you can reach the apex as you climb one step at a time. There is no constraint, except external and human built-in limitations. However, you can go beyond the ordinary by acting smartly and extra-ordinarily. Think in multiple perspectives and beyond your goal. You've to have the vision to be what you could someday envisioned yourself to become. Limitations are there, but they do not stay for long. You can outmaneuver and outsmart even your own self. Be you, a better you, or even the best version of your future self. The future is not self-contained, but ever evolving!

So, there you have it. Good luck with your endeavors! See you again, virtually!

Postscript: If you know or want to include another MOOC or Open University, etc., kindly leave your comment hereunder:

Thanks!

Summa cum Laude: Everything about It (An Incomplete Summarization)

Summa cum Laude (ScL): Its Etymological Meaning

https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2020/01/31/05/40/genius-4807154_1280.png
Summa cum laude (ScL) is a Latin phrase with the meaning "with highest honor or utmost praise."

How ScL is earned?

It is a special academic distinction or ultimate academic excellence awarded to an exceptional graduating candidate. The weighted average grade of a summa cum laude is a (negligibly) perfect grade of 4.0+ (lowest grade is 0.0), 1.20 (lowest grade being 5.0), A+ (lowest grade is E/F), or 97%-100% (lowest is below 65%) (“How to Convert Your GPA to a 4.0 Scale” 2017). Some universities, on the other hand, have a quota system as to the percentage (such as, top 5%) of summa cum laude that they can confer per graduating class (Chong 2020).

How to become an ScL?

Being a summa cum laude means having the right mix of nature and nurture.

    1. Genetics is a contributory factor. A few individuals from the total population end up being born into this world with exceptional gifts, talents, and ingenuity. They easily take in information, as if "effortlessly." They are born geniuses in general standards. With their superb brain absorbing (such as, eidetic, synesthesiac, or highly photographic) and super-processing powers, they can critically and creatively utilize information at its utmost immediacy. No wonder, many people may attribute an individual landing as topnotch as the product of a person's predecessors (such as, ancestry, parents, and sometimes even to aliens).

    2. Nature is also seen as another factor that contributes to a person becoming the cream-of-the-crop of the graduating batches. At the start, a baby may have been reared by a family predisposed in excelling in various fields of expertise. As such, such an individual studies in a well-reputed educational institution that cater to the gifted and highly talented individuals. Being surrounded by like-minded individuals like him/her, he/she also would later excel in his/her learning. Some of these future summa cum laude graduates receive the best training, companionship, education, and networks/linkages with the best government, private and non-profit organizations. Just think of those basic and higher education institutions whose endowments came from well-off and highly acclaimed alumni? Moreover, just to think of specialized schools and universities, such as science schools, schools for the gifted, inter alia, whose primary vision is to produce the "best and the brightest minds."

Is it too late to become an ScL?

Nothing seems to be too late in life, except when it ended. To become a summa cum laude, the first two above are non-negotiable ingredients. Nonetheless, there are things sandwiched between nature and nurture - that is, the specifics to them.

An award of summa cum laude may mean a person, who may or may not be an approximate jack-of-all trade, finishing the right course. For instance, a music prodigy may as well take up a course in college major in Music. An algorithmic brain person, on the other hand, may end up earning triple degrees in BS Bio-Informatics, Computer Science, and Philosophy --all at a young age of 12. Before turning 18 years of age, he/she may already completed his/her MD and PhD.

To sum things up a bit, earning that most sought after recognition is coupled with all the proper condiments, such as being well-organized, doing all course requirements on or before due dates, turning in extra credits, and a lot more. So, the next time you ask yourself: "Is it too late to become a summa cum laude?" The answer may as well be a realistic: yes, maybe, or no.

In the meantime...

        I've other things to do.

Summa cum Medicus (ScM; aka Maximo cum Honores / McH): Its Meaning and Significance

Summa cum Medicus (aka ScM) is a term, which when literally translated from its Latin origin means "All that Heals," "Whole Healing," "Holistic Healing," inter alia.

So, what is ScM?

Since this blog was conceived out of curiosity producing the wholeness of things, specifically concerning human endeavors, achievements, and accomplishments, I thought first of the human species (that is, the "fittest" in terms of intellect). Albeit, "fittest of the human species" is not a glorification of the "best and the brightest" intellectually,  but only a journey into that frontier's edge. For as human beings, as all things may or may not be equal at all, we have our own share of contributions to humanity.

Big or small, I write first about summa cum laude or the cream of the crop in their field of endeavors. They are byproducts of nature (that is, "good genes") AND nurture (such as, laudable parental guidance, education, upbringing, good peers' influencers).

To date so far, I've only included summa cum laude from the University of the Philippines's inception until this writing. In future times, I hope that this site would expand and include worldwide individuals who were recognized as summa cum laude - that is, from undergraduate up to their post-doctoral degrees.

At this point, what is the significance this ScM has to me or to anyone interested out there?

First, ScM may engender inspiration at its apex. Remember that people aspire to be best given the right motivation, interest, or inspiration. This article is such. There are various perspectives in which to celebrate individual achievements collectively. Much better, if we find the key to look for similar yet easiest way how to become one of them.

Second, an initial database of ScM is a must for me. I need to collect data elsewhere and into this single website for individuals to have something to cite or reference despite the fact that this is simply a blog. Nonetheless, given the right time afterwards, an ScM.com or its variants URL may be in the offing...

Third, netizens like to imitate something and make it better. I've that in mind too that's why the birth of this site. Caveat, not aside, eschew from using this site's content(s) without proper in-text citation and referencing. I've done the same of properly crediting the person owning an original work or secondary source(s). In the event I made a mistake and self-informed or notified by concerned individuals, I will definitely make the necessary and sufficient correction.

Fourth, in reality, there are other significance that I may have not tackled yet. Whenever time and energy permit me to do so, I will add more to this part. I can gain insights from your comments below; and I, in advance, appreciate and thank you...

I've many more and better things to share out of this blog. For the meantime, let me leave with you a message to help one another out. If you've better ways in sight, kindly post your contribution below...

Thank you!
