Online courses, NOT only for a select few, BUT for everyone

These days, myriad universities and non-universities offer courses via the internet. Many of these universities are privately or government-owned educational institutions. On the other hand, non-universities are non-profit, for-profit, and non-governmental entities whose online platforms they manage on their own. Both of these institutions mostly provide massive online open courses (MOOCs) and a few of them established their own right of having learning management systems (LMS), virtual learning environments (VLE), and the like.

First, a list of the most prominent and byword institutional online education systems include, but are not limited to the following:

  • EDx, founded in 2012 (USA), is a non-profit MOOC. It offers free online courses; however, for a fee for its course certification.
  • Canvas, established in 2008 (USA), is a commercial-type MOOC. Courses ranges from K-12 to higher education.
  • Coursera, put up in 2012 (USA), has some free online courses. The rest is subscription-based courses with varying licenses.
  • FutureLearn, like Edx and Coursera, it was founded in 2012 (UK). Likewise, it offers free online courses, but for a fee for its certification courses.
  • Iversity, founded in 2013 in Europe, it is a commercial-type MOOC.
  • Khan Academy, which was built in 2006, is also a non-profit learning platform that offers general K-12 education up to master's level.
  • Open2Study
  • Udacity, circa 2012, is a US commercial-based MOOC.
  • Udemy, established in 2010, is a commercial MOOC space. Free courses when less than or equal to 2 hours; otherwise, paid. Both subscription or non-subscription-based course fees are instructor-dependent.

Should you enroll and complete the courses offered by these online schools, you gain countless benefits, such as:
1. Personal and professional growth and development
2. Non-verified or verified certification
3. Caring through sharing with others what you learnt
4. Other advantages, such as knowledge scaffolding and boom.

In today's world, everyone can learn everything s/he wants but with a cost: human effort, time, space, etc. What is essential is to know only the essentials. When you mastered the basics/fundamentals, you can reach the apex as you climb one step at a time. There is no constraint, except external and human built-in limitations. However, you can go beyond the ordinary by acting smartly and extra-ordinarily. Think in multiple perspectives and beyond your goal. You've to have the vision to be what you could someday envisioned yourself to become. Limitations are there, but they do not stay for long. You can outmaneuver and outsmart even your own self. Be you, a better you, or even the best version of your future self. The future is not self-contained, but ever evolving!

So, there you have it. Good luck with your endeavors! See you again, virtually!

Postscript: If you know or want to include another MOOC or Open University, etc., kindly leave your comment hereunder:

Thanks!
